We have come a really long way from creating ad copy, ad video, to testing those on Facebook Ads. We’ve also tested some factors such as thumbnail, ad copy, and so on. Today, we will continue on interest targeting on Facebook Ads to find out what interest you want to target. This is one of the best ways you can reach the right people on Facebook. And by doing that, there’s more chance that you will get more customers. So, let’s get started!

Interest Targeting: How to find what interest you want to target

You may already know how it’s important to find the right people and connect them to your store, just like when you find good products, a good sourcing agent, and create good ad creative. You will get close to those people and get them to buy from your store. That’s exactly what you are going to do when it comes to interest targeting. It’s very simple and we will show you how to do that right now.

Following the last article, we have already created 10 different ad sets. Now you just go to Google and search for some brands in the niche that you are in. For example, we will search for beauty brands, beauty magazines when we market the eyebrow pen. If you are selling healthcare niche, search for healthcare product brands. If you are selling home decor niche, search for home decor brands.

Since in our example, we are selling eyebrow pen, and it’s a beauty makeup product, this will help reach the perfect buyers.

The next thing you need to do for interest targeting is going to your Facebook Ads and change the interest here. In the Detailed Targeting, you will see that we have not added anything yet. So what are we going to do? We will go back to the beauty magazines list that we just found some minutes ago. You will see there are some brand names like Vogue, Elle, InStyle, etc.

What you do is just picking up one brand and type in the Detailed Targeting. We will pick Vogue magazine for example. And here you go. We have 8,000,000 people of potential reach.

That’s a big number so we would narrow it down to engaged shoppers only. Engaged shoppers are those who clicked the Call-to-Action button “Shop Now” in the past week. So after narrowing down we only have 2,600,000 people and that’s perfect.

Then you will need to change the ad set name into the name of the interest so that it’s easier to tell when you look at it. So we just did one beauty magazine. And we recommend you do the same thing for 3 or 4 beauty magazines and 3 or 4 beauty brands for your interest targeting. In this case, you can continue with Elle, Instyle magazine and some beauty brands like Sephora, MAC, L’Oreal, and so on. Sometimes you will see that your Facebook Ads is a little bit bugging. It doesn’t show the right figure, like this one below. It just tells fewer than 1,000 people. And that’s not correct.

If this happens to you and we are sure that this can happen all the time, you can just use some other suggestions of similar brands. Just click the Suggestions tab right next to it. Pick one brand that you think is good and then put it into the box instead.

Ok, now we have done all the beauty brands and beauty magazines, we will continue the interest targeting with other broad things here. So what we are going to do is typing the word “makeup” in the Detailed Targeting and then see what Facebook can suggest to us. Right below here, we see that Makeup Tutorials is a good one. So we will take that. For the rest one, we will try “microblading” interest. Just look for something that is relevant to your niche or your product. Those who have similar interests will be more likely to buy your products as well.

And that’s how we have done all 10 ad sets with different interests. It’s super easy and you all can do that. Don’t overthink this is so complicated and there’s no way that a beginner can master it. The fact is that just by our method, you can easily do interest targeting and find what interest you are going to focus on in your campaign. And just like other factors that we already tested, after 2 or 3 days, you will be able to see what interest is selling well and what’s not. Again, the purpose of interest targeting is to help you find the right buyers and lead them to your store.
